How was 2018 for you?
Nasser Baker: 2018 was a great year for me. I feel like I’ve grown as a person and as a producer. I’ve learned a lot in the studio, and I’ve grown socially. I’m kind of a shy person, and I’ve become more comfortable talking to people. I feel like I’ve become more zen. I don’t stress or worry about much. I stay positive and keep moving forward. I believe 2018 was a great stepping stone in my music career.
Getting into the Top 10 overall on Beatport with “Say Something,” my latest release on Circus Recordings. One of my goals was to have a song reach the Top 10. I can check that off the list. Another highlight would be visiting BBC Radio 1; it was so dope. I got a chance to take a look behind the scenes at one of the key tastemaker radio stations in the world for the music that I make. That was huge!! To hear my record being played on BBC Radio 1 was BIG, let alone when it was named the Essential New Tune. Then a few months later Annie Mac calls it the Hottest Record in the World? Whaaaaaat?!!! Dope. As far as gig-related highlights, I would say that playing in Ukraine was definitely special. I had two Ukrainian shows in one weekend, Kharkov and Odessa, and those were probably the best two gigs of my career so far. The crowds were amazing and I was able to play whatever I wanted. I’m definitely going back there in 2019.
To be honest I don’t have any lowlights. This year was a positive year.
Song of the year?
There are two songs that are tied for song of the year. “Raw Beat” by Vozmediano on Roush and “High” by Philipp Lammers on Habitat. These were my “go to” tracks in all of my sets. The bounce on these tracks is ridiculous. They give me the stink face every time I hear them. It’s hard to choose between the two.
What’s your New Year’s resolution?
To be better than I was last year, to progress. I want to continue to learn and to improve as an artist.
