How was 2018 for you?

Shadow Child: 2018 was extremely productive, actually. More time in the studio and less on the road has been amazing. A new project, Polymod, came out of it too, and I’m releasing some great music with great labels like Pets Recordings and 17Steps. Same with Shadow Child tracks, too.

Highlights?

I put out some acid tracks on Ovum and also released a collaboration EP with Mark Archer & Jerome Hill’s Super Rhythm Trax – both labels I’ve loved for years. Also we re-released SL2’s “DJs Take Control” on Food Music with new remixes to celebrate our 50th which has gone so well but more importantly been lots of fun. Playing a 3am jungle set in Studio 338’s main room was pretty special too!

Lowlights?

Missing one of my Ibiza gigs due to underestimating the upheaval of moving house! It was a big shame to miss it. I wish the move could’ve gone very differently but sometimes real life kicks in amongst all the DJ and music privileges, and family comes first.

Song of the year?

Nomad – Devotion (Pangaea’s Edit). Goosebumps.

What’s your New Year’s resolution?

To keep balancing my DJ/studio time so I can be more productive again. Love my life and family but there’s nothing like it when you get momentum writing music too … it’s what I’m all about for me!

2018 Rewind: Frankyeffe

How was 2018 for you?

Frankyeffe: It was a great year for my artist profile, full of great releases on Kraftek, Tronic, Yoshitoshi and Odd Recordings, and some super gigs around the world in countries like Colombia, Germany, Italy. Austria, Switzerland…

Highlights?

I think that the most important goal for this year it was my show at Tomorrowland at Pryda Stage with Eric Prydz, Adam Beyer, Dubfire, Sasha and Cristoph.

Lowlights?

I lost my grandfather and it was a very strong pain.

Song of the year?

I played a lot Y-Traxx – Mystery Land (Spektre Remix) released on Kraftek. I think that’s one of the best tracks of the year.

What’s your New Year’s resolution?

For the next year I’ll release only top tracks, and I’ll play at the top clubs and festivals. I’m working a lot in studio to get only great results.

Premiere: Jeremie Whistler – Smoke Signals (Louise Roam Remix)

Leftfield Parisian electronic singer/songwriter/producer Jeremie Whistler’s star has been on the rise since he released the well-received Flakes EP, co-produced with Angelo Foley (Christine & The Queens) and Apollo Noir (Tigersushi), in 2014.

His latest offering “Seven Seas” forms a prelude to the chapters that follow in his upcoming debut album, The Dawn, due in 2019.

Ahead of the album’s release Whistler has tapped electro-popper Louise Roam to remix his new song “Smoke Signals,” which we’re pleased to world premiere.

Says Whistler of his fellow Parisian’s remix: “I thought of Louise for a remix because I fell in love with her song ‘The March.’ Her style is pretty similar to mine but she took the track somewhere else. She did such an amazing work; I was very surprised that she used her voice in the remix and how perfectly it works with mine.”

2018 Rewind: Josh Garrett

How was 2018 for you?

Overall, it was a really good year. I had a number of releases on great labels and several really solid compilation appearances. Both my own profile as JGarrett and the profile of Subspec grew this year. This year, I mostly released other artists on Subspec and focused on releasing my own material with other labels. My sound has kind of developed into something much heavier and faster than what I was doing previously. People seem to be into it … that’s been awesome. I’ve played a number of live sets this year in a few cities around the US and have been booked for my debut appearance in LA supporting I Hate Models.

Highlights?

Having my track “Rushing to Singularity” released as part of Perc Trax’s Forever 1 compilation and then having it played by Dense & Pika at Ultra Europe was the biggest highlight. I also released “Proximity” with Gobsmacked Records, which has been getting a really great response and support. I released a bunch of my harder industrial material with Italy’s Dirty Minds this year — three EPs and a compilation track. Dirty Minds was practically my home label this year. I also released my Recombinant EP on Advanced (Black) and that got some love from some DJs I really look up to. Lots of good stuff going on. Also, putting on the Subspec showcase with the Bassment in Detroit during Movement weekend. I also did a remix for The Butcher that came out on his ” Matter of Creation” 12″ on Remember Why You Started under the name “Sunlight Lane Mix.”

Lowlights?

There were some tough things that happened in 2018. It was a year of begins and endings … lots of transitions this year. Transitions can be hard.

What’s your New Year’s resolution?

I’m going to work on not burning the candle at both ends quite so much.
