The night before Thanksgiving is the second biggest night of the year for clubbers. Is it because people need to loosen up a bit before dealing with the holiday? Here’s a list of some of the better club events happening around the country, so get out there on the dance floor and get down like a, erm, pilgrim…or something.
1. New York City: Melchior Productions @ The Bunker (Public Assembly)
The Bunker has moved its weekly Friday night shindig back to Wednesday for the holiday, booking none other than the don of minimal house, Thomas Melchior! He’ll be delivering a rare live P.A. alongside sets from resident DJs Spinoza and Derek Plaslaiko. So, if you’re in the city, do the right thing and make your way down to Williamsburg for some jacking rhythms, micro-sampled pop songs and the Bunker’s ever-reliable sound system. Be warned: Public Assembly isn’t a huge space and this event is only $15, so it will fill up. Arrive early!
2. Boston: Embrace Presents Ewan Pearson @ Phoenix Landing
Boston’s infamous Mid-Week Techno crew done gone and booked Ewan Pearson for their Turkey Day bash. Originally teasing they had “DJ Turkey Breast & The Candied Yams” (they sound delicious!) locked in for the date, they’ve revealed the special guest DJ’s identity at long last! Expect soaring Kompakt-style techno and electro-centric house jams as Sir Ewan celebrates the landing at Plymouth Rock.
3. Chicago: A ‘Classic’ Thanksgiving Eve w/ Derrick Carter @ Smart Bar
Chicago’s ever-reliable Smart Bar is celebrating the holidays with some class this year, bringing one of the true Detroit Techno greats into town for their party: Derrick Carter. Raucous house anthems and down and dirty techno riffage will be in abundance as he takes to the decks, but support from the likes of James Curd and Justin Waite can’t hurt either! Here’s a tip: get in before midnight and you get $2 of admission.
4. Miami: Pandemic w/ Lopera, Dsan Powell, D.R.U.N.K.E.N. & Sabox @ Rehab
Miami loves to do things in style, and their pre-Thanksgiving jump off is no different. The upscale Rehab bar is playing host to the We Love Techno crew’s long-running Pandemic night this year, with a revolving cast of DJs delivering a solid soundtrack of minimal and tech house. $30 gets you all you can drink, so do you really have an excuse to skip this?
5. Los Angeles: Techyla Presents The Pre-Thanksgiving Shindig @ L’Scorpion
Nothing speaks of the holiday spirit more than a free party, right? Well, the people behind Hollywood’s Techyla Wednesdays clearly know this better than anyone, since they’ve put together a killer looking party to kick off the long weekend. Drink specials run from 6-9, and with a bevy of local talent, including the likes of Android Cartel, Curtis Helson and Ivan Guttiere spinning alongside resident DJs Shoody Lynn and Franco Benito, this is shaping up to be quite a nice evening indeed!
6. San Francisco: Audiojack @ The Endup
San Fran’s The Endup has a long-standing tradition of partying down hard on Thanksgiving, and this year is going to be no different! With the UK’s Audio Jack booked as the headlining act alongside a host of support acts that are the very definition of ‘quality’ (Alland Byallo, Clint Stewart, LadyHaus…the list goes on), this is definitely the night to beat across the country. Admission is free before midnight, so get in early, otherwise it’ll run you $10.
