As one of the founders of the Chicago-based Teklife crew, a team as responsible as anybody for helping to put footwork on the map, DJ Spinn has earned his share of renown and then some. You’ve already been exposed to his work via the DJ Rashad tracks he’s appeared on, not to mention the 2014 Teklife compilation. But believe it or not, this fall will mark the first EP he’s ever released under his own name.
Spinn, who has clearly spent a lot more time on his music than he has on his moniker, is set to release the Off That Loud EP on October 2 via the London-based Hyperdub label. For those who’ve already been feeling the footwork vibe, Off That Loud will amp up your enthusiasm even further. But it’s also pretty easy to imagine the record making a whole new slew of converts. Especially when people plant their ears on a track like “Dubby,” for which you can view the video below featuring the Teklife crew. It brings Spinn’s sounds together with some posthumous touches from the late Rashad and a vocal from Danny Brown. And if you feel like you just can’t wait for October 2 to roll around, don’t fret — a pre-sale option is expected in the next few days.
