Last Friday, Bob Moses hit the Bacardi House Stage at The Governors Ball on Randall’s Island in NYC. With a Friday lineup that included the likes of Beck, Jamie xx, Robyn, Bloc Party and more, Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance were in good company, and Saturday’s lineup wasn’t exactly chopped liver either (Miike Snow and M83 anybody?). Unfortunately, the powers that be brought about the cancellation of the festival’s third day featuring headliner Kanye West. No, we’re not talking about the police; apocalyptic storms and the threat of lightning were the source of the shutdown.
Nevertheless, before all that nastiness went down and a subsequent attempt by West to do a pop-up show last night at Webster Hall led to a riot, both Howie and Vallance talked after their appearance. Want to know who some of the duo’s key influences are? Care to learn which current artists they’re excited about? Itching to find out how they felt about their performance at Gov Ball and about the festival in general? Avail yourselves of the videos below, from the Bacardi Untamable House Party and wonder no more.

If you’ve loved what you’ve heard from the Vancouver/New York twosome Bob Moses so far, then it’s time to rejoice, because pretty soon you’ll be getting a bigger dose of their sound than ever before. Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance are set to release their debut album, Days Gone By, through Domino on September 18, so you’ll have something to look forward to after the summer’s done and the fall starts breathing down your neck. In the meantime, you can catch the duo live this summer, at the likes of MoMA’s PS1 (August 1) and the Osheaga Festival (August 2), in addition to their lengthy list of North American tour dates for the fall.
The album will continue to trod the musical path you’ve already come to expect from Bob Moses, combining their electronic production techniques with their old-school pop songwriting savvy. As Howie says of the pair’s sonic blend,
“We were never happy just making music on guitars. Our live show combines what a DJ does with a rock band. Everything flows together in a continuous mix for the dance floor, but it’s all our own original music, with live vocals and guitar. Then again, we came out of a scene that was trying to change what dance music is – that pushed beyond the expected sonic spectrum.”
BTW, collector types can grab a limited-edition silver vinyl version of the album that comes with a download code and two bonus tracks by pre-ordering here. Catch the video for “Talk” below:
