Gary Numan to Release First Album in 4 Years

Gary Numan, the groundbreaking electronic music artist who has scored such classics as “Cars” and “Are ‘Friends’ Electric?” and was recently awarded the Inspiration Award for songwriting and composition at the Ivor Novellos, will release Savage (Songs From A Broken World), his 22nd album and first album in nearly four years, on September 15.

The album was produced by long-tine collaborator Ade Fenton and was recorded between Numan’s own studio in LA and in the UK.

Savage is a concept album about a dystopian world where society has collapsed and the planet has turned to a “desolate desert wasteland.”

Obligatory press release gush from Numan: “The songs are about the things that people do in such a harsh and terrifying environment. It’s about a desperate need to survive and they do awful things in order to do so, and some are haunted by what they’ve done. That desire to be forgiven, along with some discovered remnants of an old religious book, ultimately encourages religion to resurface, and it really goes downhill from there.”

Numan has unleashed the album’s first single, the industrial-fueled “My Name Is Ruin,” directed by visual artist and musician Chris Corner of IAMX. Interesting note: Numan’s 11-year-old daughter Persia contributed vocals to the track.
