Premiere: Brooklyn Gypsies – “Kunta Baba”

Big Shot was born and bred in Brooklyn, and one of the things we love about New York City’s best borough is its cultural diversity. Our 718 homies Brooklyn Gypsies epitomize the essence of the multiculturalism of Kings County and it’s reflected on their upcoming debut album, Sin Fronteras (translation: Without Borders), on Nickodemus‘ Wonderwheel Recordings.

Due out May 5, the six-piece’s sonic template is founded on a fusion of dub, African, Middle Eastern influences and a host of other styles from all over the world, with lyrics sung in Spanish, English and Russian.

Soak up the world premiere the dubby, hypnotic “Kunta Baba” off the album. The beats are deep and groovy, but just wait until you hear those strings.
