Chicago house music luminary Gene Farris has been delivering positive dance floor vibes since the ’90s. During his storied career, the Windy City-based DJ/producer has released a cavalcade of floor fillers on choice imprints (Cajual/Relief Records, Defected, Dirtybird, Visionquest, Lapsus Music and Suara) and has been the visionary behind Farris Wheel Recordings.
Farris’ “Back In the Day” is featured on This Is Toolroom 2020, a high-octane collection of shiny new Toolroom’s tracks mixed by Martin Ikin.
The 21-track compendium also features the likes of Mark Knight, Amine Edge & DANCE, GW Harrison and Raumakustik.
We connected with the globetrotting Farris and asked him to select his five tracks of the moment.
1. Gene Farris – “Back In The Day”
This track has been one of the highlights in my sets in 2020! Every time I play this it does some serious damage on the dance floor.
2. Gawp – “Gergles”
Gawp is one of my favorite artists at the moment. I love to DJ his stuff; it has a Dirtybird Vibe was a U.K. touch. It always slams in the clubs.
3. J.Worra – “All Good”
J.Worra, my Chicago sista, has been put out a lot of good tunes, and even more club and festival house bangers lately. “All Good” is one of my favorites from her and is on my label, Farris Wheel Recordings.
4. Siege, Raumakustik & Gene Farris – “Circles”
This track has been the monster in the closet! It’s been giving everyone so much joy on the dance floors all across the globe. I’m so happy and honored to have been apart of this record and working with such talented people.
5.Brett Gould feat. Rion S. – “The One”
This record is so good – it has a real Detlef vibe and the Rion S vocals cut through perfectly. This is another [track] that gets the floor going. Also out on imprint Farris Wheel Recordings.
