DJ XXXchange has told Big Shot exclusively that he is no longer a member of B’more outfit Spank Rock. Speaking from Perth, Australia before DJing at the Parklife festival, XXXchange said the four-man group is now under the sole direction of Naeem Juwan.
“I’m no longer a part of the group,” said XXXchange (aka ArmaniXXXChange), appearing to hold no ill feelings about his departure. “[Naeem] has taken it over. I’m going to do some stuff on his record. We already recorded three songs together. He’s working with DJ Medhi, Squeaky Clean and Leif. It was more Naeem’s decision, he was the one making the decision of it being more his thing. Also, I think he wants to get into a real urban market, and that’s something I’m not capable of or qualified for.”
After completing several DJ dates this month in Australia, XXXChange, whose remix of Santogold’s “L.E.S. Artistes” took his career to the next level, will return to Brooklyn. He says he plans to resume work on his full-length debut due in 2009. Look for a full interview with XXXchange in Issue 24.
