Album Review: Samuel L. Session / ‘The Man With The Case’ (Be As One)

the-man-with-the-caseWith over two decades of spotlight experience in the techno world, this album oddly enough is the first full-length experience from SLS to date. Having helped craft the sound of techno over the years, this Swedish producer has delivered everything from straight up drum tracks, Detroit-style chord jams, old-school bleepy tunes and prolific peak hour epics. Opening up with a massive dreamy evocative shuffled up breakbeat track, “Time” sets the tone for the analog future that will soon arrive. While the production techniques vary a bit from the days of yesteryear, certainly the soul of the analog days aren’t lost in translation, as rolling grooves and radiant melodies ravage the upper spectrum. Not using any sort of formula for the productions, each track remains quite exclusively unique, however a definite theme and schooled approach is apparently present at all times. At this point we should all be familiar with SLS, however if this is your first introduction to the legendary producer, then this intensive briefing will adequately get you up to date.
