dj-rupture-matt-shadetek-solar-life-raftSitting through an entire dubstep and bass mix collection is more punishment than reward for some, but über-talented Brooklynites DJ/rupture and Matt Shadetek prove that adage false on their genre-bending pairing Solar Life Raft.

Here the two explore every bass sound imaginable, mine inscrutable dub, and even feature a surprising amount of Detroit-inspired techno. The mix also reflects the two artists’ remarkable range of tastes filtered through the partnership’s Warp Records-meets-DJ Jazzy Jeff editing style. The results are far more forward thinking than most of what is currently pigeonholed as dubstep or grime and definitely light years ahead of all forms of U.S. bass music in terms of production technique.
