Musician/academic DJ Spooky That Subliminal Kid (a.k.a. Paul Miller) released his sixth album earlier this month on Thirsty Ear Recordings. The Secret Song fuses hip-hop and electronic music in typical Spooky fashion and features cameos from Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, The Jungle Brothers, The Coup, Rob Swift, Mike Ladd, and others. The Secret Song will be accompanied by a DVD of a rare film from the Russian Revolution, the 1924 film Kino-Glaz (Cinema Eye) by the renowned Russian Director Dziga Vertov. DJ Spooky rescored the film and remastered the footage in New York for the DVD to serve as a companion-piece to his new album.

In addition to the album and DVD, Spooky has developed an iPhone app with DJ player. The forthcoming app, available for the iPhone and iPod Touch, allows users to play a smooth mix of tracks from the album and to mix the tracks using the built-in mixer. The app includes seven tracks of songs and remixes from The Secret Song album and exclusive DJ Spooky sound effects. Watch Spooky’s demo below.
